| Year | Date | Place | Event |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 2018-07-11 | Écône | Pagliarani elected Superior General — The General Chapter elects Fr. Davide Pagliarani, former rector of La Reja, to a 12-year term, succeeding Bishop Fellay.[2] |
| 2018 | 2018-11-22 | Rome | Pagliarani meets Cardinal Ladaria at the CDF — Superior General Davide Pagliarani, accompanied by Fr. Emmanuel du Chalard, meets Cardinal Luis Ladaria, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, with Archbishop Guido Pozzo of the Ecclesia Dei Commission. The Society's own assessment afterwards states that “because of this irreducible doctrinal divergence, for the past seven years no attempt to compose a draft of a doctrinal statement acceptable to both parties has succeeded.”[4] |
| 2026 | 2026-02-02 | Menzingen | New consecrations announced — Superior General Pagliarani announces plans to consecrate new bishops on 1 July 2026, citing the age of the Society's remaining bishops and the unresolved doctrinal disagreement.[1] [3] |
| 2026 | 2026-02-12 | Rome | Pagliarani meets Cardinal Fernández at the DDF — Ten days after the announcement of the consecrations, Pagliarani is received by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández at the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, with Leo XIV's approval. The Dicastery's statement proposes “a pathway of specifically theological dialogue” on questions including “the distinction between an act of faith and the ‘religious submission of mind and will’” and the differing degrees of adherence owed to the texts of Vatican II, aiming to establish “the minimum requirements for full communion with the Catholic Church” and “to outline a canonical statute for the Fraternity”. It reaffirms that ordaining bishops without papal mandate “would constitute a decisive rupture of ecclesial communion (schism)”, citing Ecclesia Dei and the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts' explanatory note of 24 August 1996, and states that the dialogue “presupposes that the Fraternity suspend the announced episcopal ordinations”.[5] |
