Brazil's episcopal conference, grouping all the country's Catholic bishops: founded 14 October 1952 in Rio de Janeiro — with Msgr. Montini, the future Paul VI, urging its creation, and Hélder Câmara, one of its main organizers, as first secretary-general — and headquartered in Brasília since 1977. All diocesan bishops belong, alongside coadjutors, auxiliaries and certain titular bishops, organized in pastoral commissions and regional councils. In the Cronologia projects it is the recurring institutional actor wherever 'the Brazilian bishops' act collectively.[1] [2]
