An associational form of canon law under which the SSPX was erected in 1970 by Bishop Charrière of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg, on an ad experimentum basis — the diocesan approval whose 1975 withdrawal (disputed by the Society) opened the canonical conflict.[1]
